Whenever new data centers are mentioned in Brazil, the reaction is almost automatic: “what about energy consumption?”. The question is legitimate, but incomplete.
Worldwide, data centers account for about 1.5% of global electricity consumption. It is a significant share, especially as it grows with artificial intelligence and cloud services. In the United States, for example, this number already exceeds 4%, with projections for accelerated growth in the coming years. In other words: ignoring the impact is not an option.
